I understand from "The Genealogy of the Jackson Family"by Hugh Parks Jackson, that the famous Egyptian missionary from the Presbyterian church, The Rev. Dr. john Hogg might be a descendant of this Robert Hogg, b. 1730, or 1725, or 1720. This Dr. John Hogg had three children 1. Lawrence A. Hogg, b. 1882, d.1962,, from Edinburgh, wife was Caroline May Dixon (Dickson?). Lawrence was a well known theologian also.
2. Son Alfred George Hogg, 1875--1954 was also a famous theologian. 3. Daughter Bessie K. Hogg was head of the Church of Scotland girl's High School in Calcutta.
Another ancestor is possibly William Hogg, 1698, m-Euphame Effie Brown, b. 1702. This William had a son named Robert b. 1729 who was a tenant farmer and the father of James the Ettrick Shepard Poet--cousins maybe but not this immediate family I don't think. Unless William is an Uncle? Robert Hogg the tenant farmer b. 1729-d. 1820, m . Margaret Laidlaw (1730-1813). They had at least 4 children ==James the Ettrick Shepard and William who stayed in Scotland all their lives, and Robert and David who emigrated to the US. How are they related to my Robert ? I'm very anxious to know!! Thanks for any help from anyone. I've searched and searched at ancestry.com and many other places--I think somone will just have to know.
